The Chic A Dee Cafe is the place to go to in Topeka for a home-cooked meal that will please your palate and satisfy your hunger. Owners Ken and Linda McDonald apply their more than twenty years in food service to provide the tastiest chicken fried steaks, whole catfish, fried chicken, grilled or breaded pork chops, a different soup each day, homemade pies, and a variety of other menu items- all at reasonable prices and served by a courteous and efficient staff.
Those of us of a certain age will automatically recognize the Chic A Dee building as an old Pizza Hut. (Am I dating myself here?) They’re kind of the epitome of a no-frills Midwestern Mom and Pop place. What they lack in decor and pretense, they make up for with solidly good burgers and grilled sandwiches.
Forget everything else. Get a patty melt with sweet potato fries and blue cheese for dipping. I’m only half kidding here. Their burgers and grilled sandwiches are also awesome. Plus, they make their potato chips in house, which is fun.
