The Burger Stand at College Hill

The Burger Stand is across the way from Washburn University and you’ll find a combination of locals and students here. They’ve got excellent food and plenty to keep you entertained.

Juli’s Coffee and Bistro

Juli’s is a downtown favorite serving breakfast, lunch, and goodies in between. They’re located conveniently to the SGI office though parking can sometimes be a challenge during peak hours. Don’t let it stop you though. If you park a little further north on Kansas Ave, you’ll pass by Hazel Hill Chocolates and Cashmere Popcorn. You can always pop in and get yourself some afternoon treats on the way back to your car.

The Pennant

The Pennant is one of the newer places in town and they don’t show any signs of slowing down. Grab a bite to eat, a drink. You can also take advantage of their vintage arcade games, bowling lanes, and sports on various TVs. They tend to stay busy so this is probably a better destination for longer lunch or an evening or weekend meal.

Those of us of a certain age will automatically recognize the Chic A Dee building as an old Pizza Hut. (Am I dating myself here?) They’re kind of the epitome of a no-frills Midwestern Mom and Pop place. What they lack in decor and pretense, they make up for with solidly good burgers and grilled sandwiches.
